One of the strangest things about the advice giving business (which is fundamentally the business I’m in, whether I’m advising on doing more and better magic, getting more organized, or changing your life) is that I’m asking people, in effect, to trust that I’m someone worthy of giving them advice.

That’s kind of a big deal if you think about it. As a person who’s set themselves up as an advisor, I thought it’d be helpful to share a bit about what I believe and strive to live by.

Mission:
Organizing Enchantment, at Home and in the World

Values:

Competence – What you do, do it well

Creativity – Creating in the world is creating the world

Connection – All things are stronger in relation

Vision:
Pirate the tools of the corporatocracy to help us follow our hearts and manifest our dreams to create the better world (our hearts know is possible)

*** Ivy’s Personal Maxims (version 8, 2025) ***

  1. Religion that’s easy is wrong – I’ve never written on this, my oldest Maxim, but faith that presents fluffy platitudes, uncomplicated morality, formulaic rules, or simplistic theology / ontology is inherently flawed and not worth attention
  2. Don’t get offended, get pissed off
  3. Life is too short to eat shit
  4. Look where you want to go
  5. It’s better to look ordinary and actually be interesting
5.5 But it’s better to be interested than interesting
  6. Make your own sense
6.5 And your own meaning too
  7. Don’t just know yourself, grow yourself
  8. Focus, don’t dwell
  9. Give. Fewer. Fucks.
  10. You have to do your own math
